Resident Evil 3 walkthrough: Jill's apartment and the escape from the housing district

The story begins in Jill's apartment. You wake up in bed and experience the first few minutes - similar to Resident Evil 7 () - from the first-person perspective. Go into the bathroom and turn on the light. After the cutscene, you wake up again, go to the bathroom again and turn on the light again.

The game will now switch to the third-person perspective. Return to the bedroom and pick up the phone. Nemesis will attack you in the next cutscene. In the next few minutes, you will escape from Nemesis on a linear path outside to the street.

Jill has been suffering from PTSD since the incident at the mansion.

On the street you will meet Brad Vickers, who will lead you to Jacks' pub. However, the pub is overrun by zombies and you find yourself in an alley behind the pub. Pick up the dead cop's gun and run to the warehouse.

You will have to do without weapons for the first 10 minutes.

Leave the man in the truck trailer and exit the building through the back entrance towards the parking garage. Take the elevator to the roof of the parking garage and run to the helicopter. However, it will be destroyed immediately and a sequence with Nemesis awaits you, in which you have to complete quick-time events. In the next section you will meet Carlos, who will lead you to the subway.

Downtown Part 1: How do I get to the substation?

Exit the subway and cross the alley to the left of the restaurant to get to the large plaza. Run to the burning alley first to trigger a cutscene where zombies tear down the fences leading to the plaza.

Your first mission is to restore power to the substation - but first you need a fire hose to put out the fire in the alley outside Garage88 Workshop. You'll find the hose at the end of the hallway in the Subway Company building in the business district. Go through Moon's Donut Restaurant to get to the Subway Company. Then connect the hose to the hydrant in the burning alley.

The fire will block your way to the substation.

Collect the bolt cutter in the workshop and use it to open the door to the garage and follow the road to the substation. But be careful, because you will be attacked by zombie dogs on the way.

Enter the substation and go up the stairs to the control room. It's best to save once and then go to the fence outside.

Where else you can use the bolt cutter, we show you in our Resident Evil 3 puzzle guide!

Resident Evil 3 Solution: How do I activate the power in the substation?

Get the lockpick from the corpse and return to the locked door on the fence. Jill is attacked by a Drain Deimos - a giant killer flea - in a cutscene and infected with parasites. Use a green herb to kill the parasites. You will encounter more Drain Deimos inside the substation - which has been turned into a nest - that can infect you again.

Inside the nest, you'll need to activate four circuit breakers. We have marked on the map where you can find all the circuit breakers.

We have marked the switches on the map for you.

Enter the tunnel on your left and run to the T-shaped end. Both on the left and on the right there is a switch at the end of the passage. Then return to the entrance of the nest and this time run straight ahead until you reach a fence with another door - the third circuit breaker is just a few meters behind.

Go through the door and climb up the ladder. Follow the path until you reach the last switch. After you flip the last switch, return to the control room. Interact with the console to restore the power.

Downtown Part 2: Setting the Route and Returning to the Subway

Next, you'll have to return to the subway company to set the route for the subway. But be careful, because Nemesis will be chasing you from now on. To learn how to deal with Nemesis, check out our Resident Evil 3 Nemesis guide.

Run all the way back to the subway company. In the subway company you have to set the route in the control room. We will show you how to do that in our Resident Evil 3 puzzle guide.

Once you've done that, it's back to the subway station. This time you will meet Nemesis on the plaza again. Don't let him stop you and escape into the subway.

In the subway follows a chase through the sanitation rooms. Run away from Nemesis until you reach a large storage room. Kick in the grate to the shaft to escape through the sewers.

The sewers: where can I find the battery?

Go straight until you encounter a locked door and next to it a slope into the lower sewers. You can't open the door yet, because you need a battery first. Jump into the lower sewers and follow the path until you reach two tunnels. The left tunnel leads to the sewer office (and thus to the grenade launcher) - the right one leads to the battery.

In our Resident Evil 3 Weapons & Upgrade Guide, you'll learn which ammo types you can craft for the grenade launcher.

Keep your distance from the gammas, otherwise they will eat you in one bite.

At the end of the right tunnel, a small lab awaits you, where you will find resources as well as the battery you are looking for on the table. Run back to the slope, climb up the ladder next to it and insert the battery in the locked door.

Beware of the Hunter Gamma behind the door. Then unlock the barred gate leading to the door with the battery. Take the battery out again and run across the bridge to the raised ladder. Lower the ladder and you will end up back at the locked door from the beginning of the sewer section.

Resident Evil 3 walkthrough: chase at the construction site

Use the battery and climb up the ladder at the end of the hallway. Before you even reach the top, you will be attacked by Nemesis again - this time with a flamethrower. Run into the unfinished building and flee from Nemesis further and further up.

The way to the roof is completely linear - you just can't stop. The first boss fight against Nemesis awaits you on the roof. Our Resident Evil 3 boss guide tells you how to defeat him.

Kendos' weapon store and the escape through the city center

Jill ends up on a street full of abandoned vehicles after the fight. Climb on the fire truck and jump over the ladder to the next area. You are now at the cesspool from Resident Evil 2 (). Enter Kendo's weapon store and talk to Kendo.

Then take the alley key from the key box and use it to open the gate to the left of the weapon store. After passing through the apartment, you will be surprised by Nemesis again - now armed with a rocket launcher. Take your legs in your hands and run through the alleys towards the substation. At the substation, Jill is thrown over a barricade by an explosion.

You will land next to a scaffold, which will take you to the city center. Carlos radios you and tells you to return to the subway station. Another linear escape sequence follows. Your escape also takes you across the plaza, where Nemesis shoots off the head of the giant Mr. Charlie figure.

Run back a few meters so that Mr. Charlie doesn't turn you into mush. Just before the subway station you will meet Carlos, who will lead you to the gas station. After the cutscene, follow Carlos into the subway and finally complete the downtown area.

We'll show you how to find the small variants of the Mr. Charlie figure in our Resident Evil 3 Mr. Charlie figure guide.

The RPD: How do I find Dr. Bard?

Right at the beginning, you'll witness Marvin Branagh being attacked by the zombiefied Brad. Put zombie Brad out of his misery and grab the S.T.A.R.S. ID card so you can open the S.T.A.R.S. boxes (optional) in the RPD.

You can read the correct numbers on the lockers.

Enter the RPD and talk to Tyrell. After the cutscene, Tyrell will open the gate to the west wing of the police headquarters. Your destination is the S.T.A.R.S. office on the second floor. Run along the U-corridor, cross the training room's storeroom and you will end up in the staircase of the west wing.

The way to the S.T.A.R.S. office is barricaded, so you have to blow up the wall in the locker room on the second floor. Get the key for the locker room on the box on the third floor. Run back to the first floor and use it to unlock the locker room. The code for the locker with the battery is 104.

If you're looking for the combination to the safe in the RPD West Office, we can help you out with our Resident Evil 3 puzzle guide.

Return to the locker room and combine the battery with the explosive on the wall. The explosion will wake up a lot of undead, so be prepared for a fight against a larger zombie horde. There is also a licker waiting for you in the hallway outside the S.T.A.R.S. office. Collect all the ammo and healing in the office, because the RPD section ends as soon as you leave the office again.

Resident Evil 3 Solution: Subway Tunnel and the Way to the Clock Tower

The subway has derailed and apart from Jill, no one has survived. The first room you enter is a save room. Save and collect the mines for the grenade launcher. Exit the save room and cross the bed quarters. On the right there is a room with a ladder to the outside.

A difficult boss fight awaits you at the Clock Tower

You are now at the Clock Tower. Collect all the items, as you are about to meet the Stage 2 nemesis. Cross the bridge to trigger the boss fight. Our Resident Evil 3 boss guide gives you helpful tips for the fight at Clock Tower.

The hospital: How do I get the vaccine?

Jill has been infected with the T-Virus and needs an antidote. The vaccine is located in Dr. Nathaniel Bard's Lab. Leave the lobby behind and follow the corridors to the lab.

Dr. Bard's lab is protected by a voice recognition technology - so you need an audio recording of Dr. Bard. How to get the audio recording is described in our Resident Evil 3 puzzle guide.

Watch out for the Hunters in the hospital!

Go to the computer in the lab and watch the cutscene. The door to the cold room will open by itself and you can collect the vaccine. Return to Jill in the emergency room and give her the vaccine.

Next, a defense sequence awaits you in the reception hall. Shoot the broken generators and don't be afraid to use up grenades and assault rifle ammo. Once you have fended off the attack of the zombies and Hunter long enough, Tyrell will ask you to arm the explosives on the marked pillar. After that, stay there for 30 seconds until the explosive detonates.

Underground Camp: Where can I find the three fuses in the camp?

Jill has woken up from her coma and wants to get to the Nest-2 lab under the hospital. To do so, open the locked door in the reception area with the lockpick and get into a huge garage full of vehicles. Take the elevator to the underground warehouse.

As soon as you enter the warehouse, you will see a surveillance room with windows. Try to activate the elevator under the surveillance room so Nicholai will blow the fuses. You now need to find three fuses. The first one is on the platform, to the right of your current position.

We have marked the three fuses for you.

The second fuse (see marker on the map) is located on the western wall of the hall. Climb down from the platform and squeeze between the two overturned cabinets. Then run up the stairs and cross the railing. Let the elevator go up so you can get to the second safety.

For the third fuse unlock the door left of the save room and climb down the ladder. Collect the last fuse and go back to the broken elevator under the viewing room. Insert the fuses and go up. After two more cutscenes you will end up in the Nest-2 Lab.

The Nest-2 Lab: Where do I get the ingredients for the vaccine?

Go to the large room with the vaccine device on the second floor. Take the Umbrella USB stick by the PC and return to the first floor to open the locked door at the end of the hallway. Enter the large room with the body bags and go up the stairs to the lab where you grab the Cultures sample.

Go back down the stairs and run through to the end of the large room. Cross the hall full of incubation containers to the elevator that will take you to the incubation lab.

The Incubation Lab.

Collect the test tube with the liquid in the incubation lab. Now go back to the vaccine device. But before that, a fight against several Hunters awaits you in the large hall with the incubation containers. How to make the vaccine is described in our Resident Evil 3 puzzle guide.

After the vaccine puzzle, only the boss fights against Stage 2-Nemesis in the disposal center await you, as well as the fight against his final metamorphosis. In our Resident Evil 3 boss guide you will learn how to win both boss fights. Once you've defeated the final boss, one last quick-time event awaits you on the helipad.
