New World: Use fast travel and shorten paths

You won't find mounts in New World. You have to walk around everything in the new MMO. This is quite annoying, especially at the beginning of the game. At a later point, however, you can use the fast travel function. In this guide you will learn:

  • From when you can use the fast travel
  • What are the requirements
  • Whether there are other ways to get around more quickly

If you have just started with New World, you will find some tips in our guide to the MMO, which will make it easier for you to get started.

There are three variants of fast travel in New World: fast travel, the callback to the inn, and owning your own home. Even though the end result is identical, there are a few small but subtle differences in how they are used.

The quick travel window is clear and almost self-explanatory.

The callback to the inn

Within the first hours of the game, the main quest takes you to Königsfels. There you will be asked to visit the inn and set your resting point. This is also possible in other inns on the map, but you can only have one "active" inn at a time. If you move the point, you will not be able to port back to the previous inn.

If you want to port back to the inn, press the "M" key to call up the map and then select the "Call back to inn" option. You can recognize your inn by the small yellow moon symbol. There are no costs for this, but you can only use this callback option once every 60 minutes.

Use fast travel in New World

On the other hand, you can use the direct fast travel function without any time restrictions. Call up the map via the M key on your keyboard and click on the location to which you want to travel. You can tell if the location is suitable by the black circle with two arrows. The quick travel points in New World are called Ghost Shrines. You can also see that you can't travel for free.

As you can see in the screenshot above, fast travel would cost 54 Azoth. However, the regular travel price is only 50 Azoth. So the cost varies. This is due to different reasons: For example, there are costs that scale with the distance. Or with the luggage you carry around with you. You can also reduce costs by using faction discounts or by having your faction control the area you want to travel to.

In our case, the cost is 54 Azoth because 16 Azoth are added to the load cost, but we pay 12 Azoth less than we normally would - thanks to the faction control discount.

By the way, if you want to use a handy tool to see all the resources, regions, NPCs and whatnot on the map, use the community-maintained New World Map.

Port yourself back to your house

Later in the game, you'll have a third way to get from A to B faster in New World. Once you have reached an area reputation of at least rank 10, you are allowed to buy a house in the city. However, this is quite expensive, so it can take quite a while to get there.

Once you are the proud owner of a house, you can teleport there again and again - for free and without a time limit.
