Monster Hunter Rise: Advantages and disadvantages of the heavy bow rifle
As the name suggests, the heavy bow rifle requires you to keep your distance when attacking in Monter Hunter Rise. As with the bow, you'll do less damage the closer you are to your target. When aiming, make sure that the crosshairs are yellow and another inner circle appears. The distance between you and the monsters can vary depending on the species and also depends on the ammunition you use.
The heavy bow rifle will make you very slow, but you'll do massive damage with the weapon. When you're on the road, you should also collect as many materials as possible to make ammunition. Without cartridges, the bow rifle is pretty useless.
As strong as the weapon is, you should play it primarily when you're on the road in a team. On the other hand, if you're hunting monsters solo, it's better to choose a less cumbersome weapon.
This is how you control the heavy bow rifle
Key | Action |
ZL | Crosshair |
ZR | Shoot |
A | Load special ammunition |
X | Reload |
L hold down X or B | Select ammunition |
X A | Close combat attack |
Reload: If you press the X button only once, you will reload only one round. If you hold the button down, however, the entire row of ammunition will be refilled.
Load special ammunition: This will fire special ammunition. If you press A again, you switch back to normal ammunition.
Charged shot: Holding down ZR for longer will recharge the shot and do more damage to the target.
New in Monster Hunter Rise: Silk Binder Attacks
Ready for the two silk binder attacks on the heavy bow rifle?
The main attacks
Anchor Block: Activate the silk binder attack by pressing R X. This ability allows you to take an enemy attack without taking any damage. If you press ZR immediately afterwards, you will fire the heavy bow rifle. Anchor block costs you two rope beetles.
Free Silk Binder Glide: Activate the silk binder attack by pressing R A. A rope beetle will pull you closer to the monster. Now you have a choice: press X A to follow up with a melee attack or Y to put away your bow rifle.
Switching skills from the heavy bow rifle
However, you can also swap the Silk Binder attacks and use the ability Counter Charge instead of Counter Shot, for example use. You can parry with the help of rope beetles. Additionally, you can take an attack without taking damage. Counter Charge also shortens the time for Charged Shot.
