Monster Hunter Rise Arc: Guide, combos & controls

Bows and arrows have always been a wise choice when you want to go hunting. This is also the case in Monster Hunter Rise. The weapon is well suited for those who don't want to jump into the middle of the action, but want to keep their opponent at a distance first. In this guide we will explain:

  • What the advantages and disadvantages of the bow are
  • How to use the weapon
  • What silk binder attacks the bow has

You are still missing the overview of all weapons in Monster Hunter Rise? No problem: In our weapon guide we have listed them all briefly and crisply.

Monster Hunter Rise: Advantages and disadvantages of the bow

It's in the nature of things: if you play with a bow, you play at a distance. Although the weapon in Monster Hunter Rise also has a melee attack, its damage from a distance is far more effective.

When you aim at the monster you want to kill, a crosshair appears that can have different colors. If it is white, you are too far away and will most likely not do any damage to the animal. It looks better when the crosshairs are gone. You will hit the monster, even if not with full force. If the circle is orange, however, you have the ideal distance and can sink your arrows into the enemy giant with a clear conscience.

By the way, you can't block with the bow. At most, you can get out of the way with a silk binder attack or a dodge roll.

How to control the bow

Here you will learn which abilities you can use with the bow and what the individual coatings bring you in the fight against the monsters.

KeyAction
ZLAim
ZRShoot
AMelee attack
X ADragonslayer (strong charged attack)
Left shoulder button X or BSelect coating
XLoad/unload coating

Apply coating: you can give special effects to the arrows by applying coatings. The results are quite different:

  • Melee coating: damage is increased, but range is reduced
  • Force coating: attack power is increased
  • Paralysis coating: targets areparalyzed
  • Poison coating: Targets are poisoned
  • Sleep coating: Targets are put to sleep
  • Explosion coating: Arrow explodes on impact
  • Fatigue coating: targets have fatigue and stun symptoms

Use combos and increase damage

Of course, the bow also has abilities that can only be used when you play a special key sequence. Let's start simple with a bow shot:

Draw (hold ZR) > Bow Shot (ZR A)

For a power shot, on the other hand, you'll need to use the following combo:

Draw (hold ZR) > Shoot (press and release ZR) > Force Shot (quickly press A)

Last but not least there is also the charged sideways step combo. For this you should memorize this key combination:

Shoot (press and release ZR) > Charged Side Step (Left Joystick B) > Power Shot (A) > Power Quick Shot (A)

You should have quickly internalized the combos for the bow, because there aren't many of them.

New in Monster Hunter Rise: Silk Binder Attacks

A weapon in Monster Hunter Rise without two Silk Binder attacks? Not a chance. Accordingly, the bow also has special attacks, which we present to you here.

The main attacks

Herculean Draw: Silk binder attack that you activate with the right shoulder button (R) A. You dash forward, briefly increasing your attack damage. However, this function consumes two rope beetles.

Focus Shot: Silk binder attack that you activate with the R X. You dodge backwards using a rope beetle and land in a crouch. While staying in this position, your stamina will regenerate much faster. If you time the focus shot cleverly, you can use it to fend off a monster attack.

Of course, you can't miss the two silk binder attacks on the bow.

Switching Bow Arts

You can also switch between the Silkbinder attacks. For example, instead of using Focus Shot, you can use Air Aim. When you jump, arrows are fired into the air from the rope beetle. Some arrows can also be fired directly from the air.

We'll add more switching arts here as soon as they're known.
