How do I prepare for the Fallout 76 Wastelanders DLC?

Before you start playing Fallout 76: Wastelanders, you should make all the necessary preparations. First of all, complete all the open missions of the main game so that you can fully enjoy the new storyline of the free expansion. In particular, you should have completed the Overseer mission series and have all 17 Holobands (Overseer Logs).

We also advise you to update your C.A.M.P. in Fallout 76 and create blueprints in case you have to move to Wastelanders. Also, collect enough scrap and crafting materials so that you can hit the ground running in the new expansion and focus on the new gameplay elements.

How do I start the new main quest of Fallout 76 Wastelanders?

Once you've made all the preparations, deactivate all Fallout 76 mods. Many players report problems and cannot open doors or enter areas, for example. Furthermore, Bethesda recommends creating a new character and starting Fallout 76 Wastelanders from scratch. If you don't have time and don't feel like a new run, we'll give you the following tip.

Create a new character to experience the first hours of the Wastelanders DLC in its entirety, and then switch back to your main character. Thanks to this tip, you will take the new game start and many funny answers from the new NPCs with you, since most of the answer options are not available to you yet. Afterwards, you'll play the few missions again with your main character and you'll already know what the best dialogue options are.

If you want to completely save yourself the demanding hours with a low-level character, start the new main quest of the Wastelanders DLC at Vault 76. In front of the locked door, you'll meet two treasure hunters, who you'll approach without further ado. The prerequisite for this is that you have already reached level 20. No matter which variant you choose - we'll tell you the best Wastelanders tips and tricks for both variants.

Fallout 76 Wastelanders: Tips for starting with a new character

To ensure that you proceed efficiently when restarting and discover as much new Wastelanders content as possible, proceed as follows. First, talk to Mr. Handy (Penningten), who is waiting for you in front of Vault 76. Follow the story, which will lead you to the warden's camp. Shortly after, you will be introduced to the C.A.M.P. and receive a holotape. This is the perfect time to let the main quest rest for a bit and devote yourself to the responder quest line instead.

Only when you are sent to Morgantown do you resume the main quest. A little later you'll meet a group of survivors and you'll have to decide. Do you want to join them or rather intimidate or kill them? Be sure to choose the first option. As a reward you will receive a legendary mask.

At this point you can switch to your main character with a clear conscience and catch up on the first missions.

Focus, factions and niceness: the best Wastelanders tips

Focus on themain Wastelanders quest and put aside side missions for now. This is because almost all of the new Wastelanders weapons and armor will not be available to you until you complete the new story arc. Also note that all new items can be dropped by legendary enemies - but only if you've learned the associated plans.

Thanks to the Wastelanders DLC, there are many new skill checks in the dialogs. If your skills are not enough for that, resort to chems, food, drinks, armor or weapons to temporarily boost your abilities. Since the bonus effects are taken into account in the dialogs, it's worth having a second piece of equipment with you.

Furthermore, you'll complete as many tasks for both new factions as possible. In return, you will receive unique outfits as a reward, which you can trade with other players. Even if you join the raiders or settlers, the content of the other faction will still be available to you.

However, you will only get the best rewards if you are nice. Whenever you are faced with the choice of killing an NPC or letting him live - choose the latter. Nice answers are also the best choice in dialogues, even in raider missions.

Furthermore, you'll make random encounters with raider or settler groups fighting monsters. Of course, be nice and helpful here as well and support both factions in battle. Afterwards, talk to the NPCs to increase your reputation.

Bonus: Quick tips and tricks for the Fallout 76 Wastelanders DLC

  • Be sure to stockpile as much 2mm and plasma ammo as you can. Many of the new Wastelanders weapons require them and they are extremely expensive to produce. Fortunately, 2mm ammo has become much lighter thanks to the expansion.
  • Pay a visit to the Ohio River Adventure . There you'll find a daily quest that many players quickly overlook.
  • If you can 't find a target on the map, (de)activate the associated quest in your Pip-Boy. If that doesn't help either, try fast travel or switch servers in an emergency.

  • Keep your C.A.M.P. budget free. You will need it for many new quests.
  • The crossbow no longer counts as a rifle in the Wastelanders DLC, so the corresponding perks no longer have any effect. Instead, you'll have to resort to the four new perks for bows.
  • Something has changed in almost every location. Sometimes it's just small visual details, sometimes completely new designs or content. On map76.com you can find a map with all important locations, no matter if you are looking for ammunition, NPCs or crafting materials.
  • Ghouls have a one percent chance of leaving Pleasent Valley Claim tickets. Take them to the Protectron at Pleasent Valley Ski Resort to unlock a rare Western outfit, among other things.
