Monster Hunter Rise Insect Eleven: Guide, Combos & Controls

The Insect Glefe in Monster Hunter Rise is not at all suitable for beginners. Pressing a few buttons and punching the monster somewhere is not enough with this weapon. That's why we'll explain it to you in this guide:

  • Basic information about the weapon
  • The special feature of the Kinsect
  • How to control the insect ivy

You are still missing the overview of all weapons in Monster Hunter Rise? No problem: In our weapon guide we have listed them all briefly and crisply.

Monster Hunter Rise: Advantages and disadvantages of the insect ivy

The Insect Glefe is a very fast weapon, aimed at responsive players. You can't block with the Glefe. If you want to prevent damage, you'll have to become a master at dodging.

How much damage you do with the insect glef in Monster Hunter Rise depends on how well you have internalized the weapon's combat system. It won't do you any good to just use the glefe on the monsters - you'll also need to know how to use the kinsect that comes with the weapon.

What is a Kinsect and what does it do?

A Kinsect is a small bug that you can send off with your Insect Glefe. Kinsects focus different parts of monsters and depending on which part they remove, you get a corresponding bonus. If the kinsect attacks the head, it usually gets red extract. Arms and legs provide white extract and any other part of the body give orange extract.

The Kinsect also has a stamina bar. Keep an eye on it, because if the bar is empty, the Kinsect will return to you briefly to recover.

The action bars look a little different on the Insect GLEFE than they do on other weapons.

How to control the Insect Elephant

The Insect Eleven has a number of abilities that you can use to light a fire under the monsters' butts. It is supported by the aforementioned Kinsekt, which assists you in battle.

ZR XKinsect: Extract collection
ZR AKinsekt: Recall
ZR RKinsect: Fire

ZR BCatapult

Kinsect: Extract Collection: Your Kinsect can collect extracts from monsters as soon as you send it out. There are three different extracts: in red, white and orange. Which color the Kinsect collects depends on the body part of the monster. Red increases your attack, white increases speed, and orange extracts protect against discards. You can further increase the effects of the extracts by mixing them together.

Kinsect: Fire: Mark the appropriate monster part you want to attack. Some Kinsects will fly straight at it and attack it, others will scatter Kinsect dust. On contact, the dust explodes and inflicts damage.

Use combos and increase damage

Like almost all other weapons, the insect elephant in Monster Hunter Rise has a few shortcuts that you should master. They are as follows:

Short attack chance combo: Thrust (Left Joystick X) > Slash (X) > Double Slash (X)

Simple combo with red extract: Jump slash (Left joystick A) > Strong upward slash combo (X) > Tornado slash (A)

In-the-air combo: Catapult (ZR B) > Dodge in the air (B) > Jumped progressive slash (A)

Compared to most other weapons in the game, the insect elephant's combos are relatively straightforward and easy to learn.

These three combos should be easy to remember

New in Monster Hunter Rise: Silk Binder Attacks

With the help of the Rope Beetles, the Insect Eleven also gives you two Rope Binder attacks at the beginning, which you can swap later on.

The main attacks

Silk Binder Catapult: Silk binder attack that you activate by pressing ZL X. You can then perform one of three more advanced attacks: Jumped Slash (X), Jumped Progressive Slash (A), or Dodge (B).

Kinsect Recall: Silk Binder attack that you activate with ZL A. It recalls your Kinsect, which performs spinning attacks upon its return and dispenses healing extracts as it goes.

Switching Arts with the Insect Elephant

As with all the other weapons in Monster Hunetr Rise, you'll also be able to switch some of the Insect Eleven's attacks to personalize your play style. For example, the Kinsect Recall can be replaced with Plunge Wyvern. This devastating swoop attack uses a rope beetle to pull you towards the ground with all its might. The damage you do is concentrated in a small radius, but it is also concentrated accordingly.

We'll add more switching arts here as soon as they're known.
