Horizon Zero Dawn Blauglanz: How to find the material

In our guide to Blauglanz in Horizon Zero Dawn you will learn:

  • Where to find blue shine in The Frozen Wilds
  • Why you should buy a matching map
  • How to get Blauglanz in the main world as well

The new area that The Frozen Wilds DLC adds to Horizon Zero Dawn's open world is called "The Cut". Icy temperatures as well as the Banuk tribe prevail here, and if you want to stock Aloy up with fresh weapons as well as outfits for the new adventure, you can't avoid one particular trade material: blue shine.

By the way, for those who need some assistance with the launch of the DLC, we have an article ready elsewhere.

How do I find blue shine in The Frozen Wilds DLC?

The easiest way to track down possible Blue Luster locations in the story expansion is to purchase a corresponding map. It will add markers to the map of the new area "The Cut" to make your search easier. Blue shine is a crystal-like substance, or more precisely, frozen machine oil. Because of the Banuk religion, this material is worth a lot to this tribe.

Buy the Blue Luster card to get helpful markers on the map.

The fastest way to find this item in The Frozen Wilds DLC is to visit a very specific merchant near the settlement of Sangesgrund. He is located northwest of it. His focus is on Banuk weapons and his icon is colored blue.

In his offer you will find a sub-item called Special Objects. Here you'll find three different cards for sale: one for blue luster and two others for pigments and animal figurines. The latter two are collectibles that you need to find for certain trophies in The Frozen Wilds.

In addition, our colleagues from the website Swiss GameGuides have created an interactive map of The Frozen Wilds, where you can discover all the Blue Luster locations, among other things.

What materials do I need for the map?

For the map that adds Blue Glow markers to your map, you will need to pay the merchant 250 metal shards, as well as goat skin and roof bones. If you don't have these materials, you can sell other objects that Aloy can't use at the moment for metal shards.

For goat skin and roof bones, on the other hand, in Horizon Zero Dawn's DLC you'll also have to keep your eyes open for the wildlife that is native to the new area when hunting for machines.

How to get blue shine in Meridian as well

But the new DLC area isn't the only place where you can get blue shine. Players report on the internet forum Reddit, for example, that blue shine can also be found in the open world of the main game. However, this is only possible if you have installed The Frozen Wilds beforehand.

Have Aloy travel to Meridian and visit a specific merchant there. His specialty is supply boxes that contain, among other things, blue luster. He is right across the street from the merchant in Meridian who sells machine parts. To find the appropriate boxes in his assortment, you'll have to dig all the way to the end of his offer.

Additionally, you'll get blue shine for tasks you complete in the DLC area. So keep your eyes open for side quests, because there the material often beckons you as a reward, even if it is not listed as such.
