How do the boss fights in Paper Mario work?

Boss battles also take place in an arena. This time, however, you stand on the edge and the opponent stands in the middle.

The battles against boss opponents also take place in an arena.

Scattered around the field are directional arrows, power-ups, hearts, crates, attack fields, folding circles, and on-switches. You determine your route by turning and sliding the individual segments. The goal is to finish the route on an attack field or folding circle - at the enemy's respective weak point.

Meanwhile, you should collect as much as possible. If you run across an on-switch, folding circles will remain active until you use them (i.e., across turns). Boss enemy attacks can be blocked, with proper timing of the A button.

Cardboard macho boss opponents you fight in action-packed confrontations.

The bosses try to make your life difficult by washing away power-ups and directional arrows, laying traps, or only being vulnerable to certain attacks at certain stages.

Follow the advice in our guide and you'll always be in the right place at the right time to give the bad guy a run for his money or block his attacks.

How do I defeat the Earth Parchmenton?

The weak points of the Earth Pergamenton are its extremities. Make sure your attack field ends just before the Earth Parchmenton and attack with the Hammer only. Jump attacks have no effect.

The Earth Parchmenton is the first boss enemy you'll have to face.

You first fight the head, arms and legs (in any order). With each hit, the Earth Parchmenton's position changes and it becomes easier to reach the tail. Once the "tail" is hit, the Earth Parchmenton crawls into its shell.

After that, folding circles appear in the arena. Maneuver Mario onto one in the next turn to defeat the boss opponent.

The Earth Parchmenton will attack you with the Sand Puster on each turn - up to three times in a row . After you hit the tail, you will be attacked once with the crash landing.

Crayons: The best strategy for the boss fight

The crayons occupy some squares with a target marker. If your route passes over it, you will suffer damage. Place yourself on an action square or activated folding circle behind the crayons.

In Paper Mario, you fight office supplies.

After you hit the crayons from behind, with your hammer or folding arms, they inflict significant damage on themselves.

On your next turn, collect an attack plus and/or multiple action and finish the route on an action square. It doesn't matter which side you attack from this time. Repeat this procedure.

Once the crayons have lost half their health, they will switch to phase 2 and attack you with the rainbow roll. Place a folding circle in front of the crayons. If that doesn't take care of the boss right away, perform the same attack again.

How do I defeat the Water Parchmenton?

The Water Parchmenton summons water vortices every round, which destroy all power-ups and directional arrows on their way out.

Attack with a jump attack to make your opponent fall to the ground.

If the water parchment is in the air, you can only reach the boss with a jump attack. Your attack will cause the enemy to land on the ground. Collect a multiple action on your route to follow up directly with the hammer.

If the boss enemy is already on the ground at the beginning of your turn, attack directly with the hammer or a folding circle.

The boss collects water every turn. When the water parchment is full (full belly and water swirling around), it discharges in a gigawave that does massive damage. In the turn before that, use a folding circle of the Earth Paramenton to avoid the wave.

In the turn after the Gigawave, the Water Parchmenton lies exhausted on the ground and is at the mercy of your attacks. Keep this strategy until the boss enemy is defeated.

Rubber band: tricks to the boss fight

The rubber band places arrow-shaped rubber bands in the arena that push you - by one ring at a time - inward or outward. Your running direction does not change. You must take the rubber bands into account when choosing your route.

Face the rubber band in a theater.

Attack the boss only with the folding arms. The closer you are to the rubber band, the more damage your attacks will do. If you don't block the enemy's attacks, you won't be able to attack for one round.

Once you have taken the rubber band apart to the core, it will move to the next phase. From this point on, its attacks cause enormous damage.

Launch another attack with the folding arms. A duel will take place, in which your speed is required. Catch the rubber band at the right moment to shoot it out of the theater.

How do I defeat the cardboard macho giant blooper?

In the first stage, dodge the tentacles, jump over the wave and hit the tentacle tips with the hammer. After four hits, the boss will spread ink stains on the battlefield that will slow you down.

A terrible sea monster awaits you on the MS Peach.

Another four hits and the battle moves to the next stage. The giant blooper is now sitting on the bow, hitting you with its tentacles, causing waves and spreading ink.

Wait for the mini-boss to perform its vortex attack, dodge the big waves, and use the subsequent stun of the enemy to hit the King-Olly sticker with the hammer.

Keep this tactic until you hit the boss again four times with the hammer. At this stage, it doesn't matter where you hit him. The fight will be much easier if you stay at the bottom most of the time.

Pappmacho Mega Pokey: How to defeat the boss

The Pappmacho Mega Pokey is defeated by attacking the King Olly stickers on the lowest segment with the step mobile. To do this, dodge them until the Pappmacho Mega-Pokey flips over. With each destroyed body part, you will have to deal with further attacks.

In the desert, confront the Pappmacho Mega-Pokey.

  • Four parts left: You will be chased briefly.
  • Three parts left: whirlwinds appear. To avoid them, first head toward the center and then back out. When the boss enemy throws himself on the ground, he attacks you with a spinning attack. Wait a moment before launching an attack.
  • Two parts left: before toppling over, the boss uses a spinning attack. Keep your distance to avoid being sucked in. But you mustn't move too far away either, otherwise you won't reach the Pappmacho Mega Pockey in time.

One part left (head): The Mega Pockey's head rolls after you and then attacks with a few small jumps before going for a big jump attack. Dodge it, jump out of your stepmobile, and hit the King Olly sticker with your hammer.

How do I defeat the Fire Parchmenton?

The Fire Parchmenton's CP drops and rises with the feathers on its body. Attack the Fire Parchmenton using only your boots. This will cause it to lose additional feathers and thus health. While your opponent is on fire, use the iron boots.

The Fire Parchmenton is a phoenix and heats you up mightily.

If possible, bypass the fields with the burning feathers, as they cause damage. Free the Water Parchmenton's folding circle from the chest and use it to extinguish the Fire Parchmenton and all its feathers for a short time.

Once the boss enemy no longer has feathers on its body, clear it one last time and then use the folding arms to take it down. If you use the Folding Arms too soon, the Fire Parchmenton will regenerate all of its energy.

Defeat Punch: The best strategy

Direct your attacks exclusively at the cover on the back of Locher and choose the hammer for that. You should avoid the punched out fields. Punched event fields can be safely entered, but not used.

To fight the punch, you need to put on the right music.

The punch punches out parts of Mario's body. With each piece lost, you lose a portion of your maximum energy. Collect the body parts again as soon as they are spat out by the punch to restore your energy.

Escape the Punch's special attack by unleashing the Earth Parchmenton 's perga power. Attack again with the Folding Arms or Boots on the following turn. Follow this strategy until the boss enemy is defeated.

Defeat Ice Parchmenton - Here's how!

The Ice Parchmenton is encased in an ice shield at the beginning. Open the chest to free a one-panel and activate the Fire Parchmenton's parchment power to melt the ice block.

The ice parchmenton deals mightily

Now attack with the Folding Arms to deal a lot of damage and stun the Ice Parchmenton. Then land an attack with your strongest weapon or a fire flower.

Your opponent's attacks are very powerful. Try to block and avoid the cut fields. The small ice blocks can be destroyed by pushing them to the opposite side of the arena.

  • Repeat the procedure several times: Chest -> Pergamacht of Fire Pergamenton -> Folding Arms

The ice parchmenton starts an ice maze every turn to create. Remember the correct arrangement of the arrows before your opponent moves the rings. Then rotate the rings into the correct position and attack the boss with the folding arms until it is defeated.

How do I defeat the tape?

Jump attacks are generally a poor choice in this fight. Attack the tape from all four sides with the hammer. Once one side of the unroller is destroyed, you will no longer be able to deal damage at that point. Attack until the dispenser is broken.

The tape is a pretty nasty fellow.

The tape now sticks together, round by round, some rings and segments. If there are too many tapes in the arena, destroy them with the Fire Parchmenton's perga power.

Periodically open the chests. When the tape charges its special attack, choose the Fire Parchmenton's perga power. Otherwise, attack with the folding arms.

Fighting the Sumo Brothers: The Best Strategy

The Sumo Brothers steal action fields from the arena. Make your way to the Sumo Bro with the On Switch and to the one with the Fire Parchmenton Folding Circle. Use the iron boots for the attack.

The Sumo Bros will block your way to Bowser's fortress.

The right positioning in the arena is important to be able to attack the respective Sumo Bro. Block the enemy lightning bolts. Once the field is available to you, use the Fire Parchmenton 's perga power. Fire causes massive damage in this fight.

Repeat the procedure until your opponents are defeated.

To defeat the Handaconda

Place the attack square on the second ring from the inside and attack the Hand Aconda with the hammer until Olivia is freed.

The Handaconda is holding Olivia captive.

One scissors, one rock and one paper square each will then appear. Make your choice and navigate Mario to one of the fields to fight the battle. There is no trick, the game is simply based on chance.

The closer the square is placed to your opponent, the more damage your attack will do if you win. At the same time, if you lose the duel, it will be more difficult to block the attacks of the paper hand.

Buzzy Beetle Pappmacho: The Best Strategy

Flee from the flying cooper heads until they come to a stop and then smash them with the hammer.

The Buzzy Beetle Pappmacho must be defeated before the you fight the scissors.

The Beetle papmacho will then start casting spells. Dodge them by running from one side to the other. You will be attacked with one, two, or three spells in a row.

In the following paralysis of your opponent, run to him and pull Kamek's face. As soon as the beetle disappears into its tank, quickly retreat to avoid the following spinning attack.

After you've completely removed Kamek's face, you'll have to dodge the whizzing tank and land three hits with the hammer.

How do I defeat the scissors?

The scissors wear a shell at the beginning of the fight, which you should not attack at all.

The scissors are an extremely dangerous opponent.

After a short time, the scissors begin to rotate. Depending on the opponent's orientation, choose the jump attack or the hammer and watch your timing.

After the boss drops the shell, you must not attack with the jump attack under any circumstances. Dodge the scissors special ability with a well-aimed jump, or the fight will be over.

There are action fields in the chest. Use the Ice Parchmenton 's perga power and use the folding arms in the following round to deal massive damage. Repeat this procedure until the scissors are defeated.

Tacker: The best strategy for the boss fight

Throughout the fight, the folding arms are a good choice. They deal a lot of damage and the stapler loses a lot of staples.

The Tacker is a biting dog and the last opponent before King Olly.

Most of the damage is done by your attacks while the Tacker is reloading. To make the reload faster, attack the boss with your boots and launch your attacks from a greater distance. With each reload, the enemy gets stronger.

Be sure to block the tacking, otherwise you will be immobilized for a turn and suffer additional damage.

Defeat King Olly: Tips for the final boss

A little relief up front: if you go Game Over during the fight, you'll be allowed to continue in the phase in which you died and won't have to start all over again.

You will have to face the Origami King in three stages.

In all three phases of the boss fight, you will be under some sort of time pressure.

Phase 1

King Olly transforms into one of the four parchments. Make your way to the special folding circle and choose your opponent's respective weak spot (see table). Attack the boss in the next round with the folding arms. Don't take too much time, though, or Olly will regenerate his CP.

TransformationWeaknessFinisher
Earth ParchmentonIce ParchmentonFreeze and knock down with the folding arms.
Water ParchmentonEarth ParchmentonTake out of the air and knock over with the folding arms.
Fire ParchmentonWater ParchmentonExtinguish and pluck with the folding arms.
Ice ParchmentonFire ParchmentonMelt ice parchment and smash it with the folding arms.

Phase 2

Activate the folding circle behind Origami Browser and support it by quickly pressing the A button. Then jump over the throwing stars that Olly hurls at you. Try to time your jump so that you land on the throwing star.

When the big stone block appears above the folding circle, you have to press the A button especially fast or cancel in time and run away.

Phase 3

You only have a certain amount of time for the entire folding circle puzzle. Additionally, you will be attacked by Olly again and again. However, the quick-time events are very simple and only require the correct timing of the A key.

Move - not rotate - the segments so that you complete the red symbol at the top, the green one at the bottom, the dark blue one on the left and the light blue one on the right. Now move the segments between the symbols and finally rotate each ring 180 degrees.

In a final quick-time event, finish off the Origami King Olly

Press the X button to finish off the final boss Olly with the folding arms.
