Monster Hunter Rise Energy Blade: Guide, Combos & Controls

If you're looking for a 2-in-1 weapon in Monster Hunter Rise, the Energy Blade is your best bet. However, beginners should keep their hands off it, because the combo weapon is a challenge. In this guide, you'll learn:

  • What are the advantages and disadvantages of the Energy Blade?
  • How to deal a lot of damage with the weapon
  • Which Silkbinder attacks are available

You are still missing the overview of all weapons in Monster Hunter Rise? No problem: In our weapon guide we have listed all of them briefly and crisply.

Monster Hunter Rise: Advantages and disadvantages of the energy blade

Similar to the morph axe, with the Energy Blade you switch between sword and axe modes. And that's where the crux lies: to fully enjoy the weapon, you'll need a bit of experience. For beginners, the Energy Blade could be too much of a challenge.

The advantage of the weapon is that you can perform quick attacks with it, but you can also block. While you do this, vials fill up, which you can use to recharge your weapon. But be careful: you can also overcharge the weapon, which will cause your attacks to bounce off the target. Switching between sword and axe is therefore essential. If you perfect this, you'll be able to kill enemies in Monster Hunter Rise in no time thanks to the seemingly infinite attack combos.

How to control the Energy Blade

Since the Energy Blade in Monster Hunter Rise has two different modes - sword and axe - you'll have to internalize a corresponding number of attacks. However, if you master the attacks, the monsters will be in the dirt faster than they can look.

Attacks in axe mode

KeyAction
XAxe: Uppercut
AAxe: Element discharge
X AAxe: Reinforced element discharge
ZRAxe: Morph Slash

Element Discharge: When you use vials in Axe mode, your attacks become stronger.

Element Bonus: If you have at least one more vial and select the Axe: Element Round Chop attack, your shield strengthens, increasing your power and block capacity. The Reinforced Elemental Discharge then becomes a Super Elemental Discharge. If you then block an attack, you get a shield explosion.

Attacks in sword mode

KeyAction
XSword: Weak blow
X ASword: Forward slash
Left joystick A for combosSword: Backward slash
ZR XSword: Morph slash
ZR ACharge
ZRBlock
Hold ASword: Charged double strike

Energy Bar: When you play in sword mode, you build up sword energy. However, don't overdo it. If you charge it too much, your attacks will bounce off the target. However, if you select "Charge Vials" while the bar is still yellow, you'll do more damage in Axe Mode afterwards.

Blocking Attacks: For example, you will automatically block at the end of the Spinning Slash if your shield is facing the target and you landed a hit.

Charged Attack: Practice this attack, because it depends on the right moment when you release the button again. If you hold it down too long, your Charged Double Strike or Concentrated Elemental Strike will go to shit.

Sword Bonus Mode: When you are in Element Bonus, use your sword to perform a Concentrated Elemental Strike. This will put you into Sword Bonus Mode, which will cause you to always hit with your sword and even land extra hits.

Use combos and increase damage

Have you created a little space in your head? You could use it, because you need to learn some combos for the energy lance. If you can master them in your sleep, the primeval giants in Monster Hunter Rise won't stand a chance against you. Let's start with a simple combo for the sword mode:

Sword: Forward Slash (X A) > Sword: Return Attack (X) > Sword: Spinning Slash (X)

The elemental spinning slash combo uses both sword and axe modes. However, the power mode requires more than one vial, so have that in mind.

Sword: Charged Double Strike (hold A) > Sword: Shield Strike (X A) > Axe: Boosted Element Discharge (X A) > Axe: Spinning Element Bonus Strike (ZR)

If your Energy Blade sword is currently activated, there is another sword mode boosting combo, but it only works during the elemental bonus:

Sword: Charged Double Slash (hold A) > While Charging (ZR A) > Sword: Concentrated Elemental Slash (hold X)

Now follow two more combos that relate to axe mode. The first one is the combo to Reinforced Elemental Discharge:

Axe: Sprint Strike (left joystick X) > Axe: Elemental Discharge II (A) > Axe: Amplified Elemental Discharge (A)

Last but not least, there is the combo from Axe Mode to Element Discharge:

Axe: Uppercut (X) > Axe: Elemental Discharge II (A) > Axe: Uppercut (X) > Axe: Elemental Discharge II (A)

New in Monster Hunter Rise: Silk Binder Attacks

Like the other weapons in Monster Hunter Rise, you can also play the Energy Blade with two Silk Binder attacks.

The main attacks

Morph Forward March: a Silk Binder attack that you activate with ZL X. You dash forward toward your target. As you do so, your blade becomes an axe and you are immune to discards and stun effects.

Peak Performance Counter: A silk binder attack that you activate with ZL A. If you keep your weapon ready to fight and then get hit by an attack, your vials charge to the maximum.

These are the two Silk Binder attacks of the Energy Blade.

Energy Blade Switching Arts

You can also interchange your Silkbinder attacks. For example, the maximum power counter can be replaced with axe jump. In this case, you'll raise your axe above your head and rise into the air with the help of iron silk. In doing so, you can unleash a powerful elemental charge and deal massive damage.
