Monster Hunter Rise Lance: Guide, combos & controls
Admittedly: The lance in Monster Hunter Rise doesn't look very handy. However, it is much more important that you deal out a lot of damage with it - and you do! In this guide you will learn:
- What advantages and disadvantages the lance offers
- How to play the lance
- Which Silkbinder attacks are available to you
You want to know what other weapons are available in Monster Hunter Rise? Then take a look at our detailed weapon guide.
Monster Hunter Rise: The advantages and disadvantages of the lance
If you want to protect yourself from the monsters' fierce attacks, the lance is a good choice. In combination with a shield, you'll be able to repel numerous attacks. However, since the weapon doesn't offer too many attacks and the combos should be mastered all the better, the lance is more suitable for experienced monster hunters.
You'll have to use the optimal combination of evasive maneuvers and precisely placed thrusts in battle to put an end to the primeval giants. An advantage compared to the other weapons in Monster Hunter Rise: The lance won't get blunt as quickly and you won't have to pull out the whetstone during the fight.
How to control the lance
You have chosen the lance in Monster Hunter Rise and you want to compete with the monsters? Then make sure you know the following attacks in your sleep.
Key | Action |
X | Middle Strike |
A | High shock |
X A | Wide wiper |
ZR left joystick X | Sprint blocks |
ZR X A | Rush |
ZR A | Counterattack |
ZR | Block |
Continue Wiper: You can also charge this attack by holding down the button. The longer you press, the more powerful your blow will be.
Counter Strike: With ZR, you hold your shield up and counter strike with it. If you then release the same button and briefly tap again, you will perform a short cancel strike.
Force Block: When you are blocking or charging up a counter-strike, press ZR A. This will use up your stamina, but at the same time it will reduce your stun duration. This allows you to counterattack quickly.
Use combos and increase damage
As with the other weapons in Monster Hunter Rise, cleverly placed combos will bring you the most success against the primeval giants. To start with, here's the simple combo:
Medium Strike I (X) > Medium Strike II (X) > Medium Strike III (X) > Dodge Back (B)
It gets a bit more complex with the combo for distance reducing attacks when blocking:
Sprint block (ZR left joystick X) > Jump kick (A) > Medium kick II (X) > Medium kick III (X)
Is the combo too complicated for you? Then just try the endless push combo:
Abort Thrust (ZR A) > High Thrust I (A) > High Thrust II (A) > Abort Thrust (ZR A)
New in Monster Hunter Rise: Silk Binder Attacks
With Monster Hunter Rise, the so-called Silk Binder attacks have made their way into the game. Two attacks can be used at the same time.
The main attacks
Twin Tendril: Press ZL X to activate the Silk Binder attack. You will thrust a small knife into the monster to make it turn its attention to you. Then, as soon as you press ZL B, you'll shoot forward to the monster and block its attack. However, this action consumes two rope beetles.
Anchor Rage: Press ZL A to activate the Silk Binder attack. Once you absorb attacks with your shield up, your attack power temporarily increases. The stronger the absorbed blow, the higher your attack power will be.
Changing arts of the lance
In Monster Hunter Rise, you'll be able to swap Silkbinder attacks using the Swap Arts. When you play with the lance, you can switch the Anchor Rage ability for Spiral Strike. This allows you to confuse your opponents, as you'll first parry an attack from the monster and then be catapulted to it in a flash to perform an attack.
