Monster Hunter Rise: Advantages and disadvantages of the hunting horn

If you choose the hunting horn, you'll have a weapon with a dual function. On the one hand, you'll do damage with it normally, just like with any other weapon. On the other hand, you can play tunes with it, which will give you and your fellow players improved stats.

You can't block with the hunting horn, so you'll have to focus even more on dodging. Before you go into battle, you should practice this skill extensively.

Even if the hunting horn doesn't seem complicated to use at first, appearances are deceiving. In fact, you'll have to play the combos in the correct sequence and at the same time pay attention to the melodies to increase your damage. Quite a challenge for beginners.

These melody effects are available with the hunting horn

You can play a total of five melodies with the hunting horn, but you activate a different bonus with each of them.

Self-improvement: Increases your movement speed.

Attack high: Strengthens your attack for a short time.

Defense high: Strengthens your defense for a short time.

Song of the Blaze: Significantly strengthens your attack for a longer period of time.

Health Recovery: Rest ores a portion of your health.

How to control the hunting horn

Although the hunting horn doesn't have too complicated button combinations that you need to memorize, the weapon is still aimed more at experienced players. However, that doesn't mean that you can't go hunting with this weapon as a newcomer to Monster Hunter Rise.

Perform: Use this ability when you have collected enough notes. Then your power increases significantly.

Grandiose Trio: You unleash all saved melody effects, which increases your damage again.

Infernal Melody: Fill up the bar next to the staves. Once it's full, use the ability by pressing ZR after a grandiose trio or a slither bar.

Use combos and increase damage

You can play three combos with the hunting horn in Monster Hunter Rise. So it shouldn't be a problem to internalize them in the course of training. For an immovable combo, you'll need to master this key combination:

Right Swing (A) > Left Swing (X) > Right Swing (A) > Side Roll Left/Right (Left Joystick B)

For a bit more movement with your character, you should learn the forward movement combo:

Forward Strike (left joystick X) > Double Swing (X A) > Crusher (A) > Overhead Strike (X A)

The only thing missing is the grandiose trio combo. And it goes like this:

Right wielder (A) > Left wielder (X) > Overhead strike (X A) > Grandiose trio (ZR X)

The better you get at the combos, the more damage you'll do with the hunting horn.

New in Monster Hunter Rise: Silk Binder Attacks

Like all the other weapons in Monster Hunter Rise, you can also use the hunting horn to perform two Silk Binder attacks.

The main attacks

Slithering Attack: With the help of the rope beetle, you'll perform a twisted attack. The last performance you use also provides a status bonus, and as you dash forward, you're safe from knockbacks.

Earthshaker: Your weapon connects with iron silk and is rammed into the target. The vibrations explode in the target, causing it to fall over.

Use the silk binder attacks to do more damage to the monsters.

Switching skills with the hunting horn

However, you have another silk binder attack at your disposal. Swap the Earthshaker for the Pearl of Resonance and learn a new attack. Use the ability to place a Rope Beetle cocoon on the ground. If you create a melody effect afterwards, a sonic wave will occur, causing damage to the monsters.
