Monster Hunter Rise Gun Lance: Guide, combos & controls
It blocks, it fires and it stabs: With the Rifle Lance you can fight the prehistoric animals in Monster Hunter Rise. You'll need a bit of training, but then you'll level the monsters to the ground in no time. In our guide you'll learn:
- What are the advantages and disadvantages of the Rifle Lance?
- How to inflict damage with it
- Which Silkbinder attacks are available to you.
Monster Hunter Rise: Advantages and disadvantages of the Rifle Lance
The Rifle Lance is like the Lance, only modified a bit. This is because it has an integrated rifle, through which it can shoot cartridges. The shield that you carry with the Rifle Lance allows you to block monsters' attacks. However, you will use up your stamina in the process. So always keep an eye on your stamina bar.
Handy: You can approach sleeping monsters with the Rifle Lance and do significant damage to them when you fire at them. However, you should also use the lance itself to deal damage. You do stab damage with it, which most monsters have little defense against.
Always have a whetstone in your pocket, though, because firing the weapon will dull it faster. It also restricts your freedom of movement.
How to control the Rifle Lance
With the Rifle Lance you have quite a few attacks at your disposal. Internalize them well in order to stop the monsters as soon as possible.
Key | Action |
X | Cross Strike |
A | Bombardment |
A hold down | Charged bombardment |
X A | Uppercut |
ZR X | Block Strike |
ZR A | Reload |
ZR X A | Wyvern fire |
ZR | Blocking |
Integrated into the Rifle Lance is the so-called Wyrmstake Cannon. After you have performed two strafing attacks, you either press the A key again or X A > X A or X A > X > X (alternatively A). This will fire a blade at your target, which will hit it multiple times and then explode.
Use combos and increase damage
In Monster Hunter Rise, you can use three combos with the Rifle Lance to inflict significant damage on the primeval giants. To get started, here's the simple combo to practice first:
Upward lunge (left joystick X) > Medium lunge I (X) > Medium lunge II (X) > Bombardment (A)
If you want to put even more fire under the enemies' butts, try the Fire Strike combo:
Uppercut (X A) > Overhead Strike (X) > Fire Strike (A)
Last but not least, you can also give the monsters a run for their money with a powerful combo:
Uppercut (X A) > Overhead Strike (X) > Wide Sweep (X) > Wyvern Fire (ZR X A)
New in Monster Hunter Rise: Silk Binder Attacks
Like all the other weapons in Monster Hunter Rise, the Rifle Lance has two silk binder attacks.
The main attacks
Hail Cutter: You activate the silk binder attack by pressing ZL X. After that, you'll first perform an upward slash and then an overhead slash. Each action you perform reduces the cooldown for Wyvern Fire.
Block Blade: You activate the silk binder attack by pressing ZL A. If you block at the right moment, your blade will be sharpened and you can follow up with some follow-up attacks right away.
Switching skills of the Rifle Lance
You don't like the hail cutter? Then just swap it for a floor divider. A rope beetle will pull you forward and you will then jump into the air. When your Rifle Lance scrapes the ground in the process, it temporarily increases the damage of Shells, Wyrmstake shots, and Wyvern Fire.
