Pokémon GO Community Day: Catch Glumanda in October 2020

It's that time again: A new Community Day in Pokémon GO is coming up! In this guide we will tell you:

  • what a Community Day is
  • which Community Day is coming up next
  • Which Pokémon will be on the catch card this month

Since 2016, Pokémon GO (read our tips guide!) has become an integral part of many smartphones. Whether you're a passionate gamer, casual gamer, or Candy Crush fan, somehow we've all been down the road trying to catch one of the cute pocket monsters.

Until now, the app has remained on the phones of many fans, and developer Niantic keeps encouraging players to get out their smartphones again with events and promotions. In addition to smaller events, there is a Pokémon GO community event every month that is always very popular.

What is Pokémon GO Community Day?

Pokémon can be caught every day. Sometimes you're lucky and there's even a particularly rare pocket monster near you. Really lucky people also meet a Ditto here and there. But that's really, really rare. So that you all get the chance to catch especially rare Pokémon and collect enough candies for their evolution, Niantic organizes the Community Day once a month.

On this day, it's up to you! Over a period of three hours, between 15:00 and 18:00, a selected Pokémon appears more often. Especially near Pokéstops, you will meet the star of this event again and again.

Pokémon GO will also give all players additional extras during the event, such as extended usage times for items like smoke or the Lock Modules.

Niantic often announces which Pokémon will be the focus of the next Community Day in the previous month. So you can mark the date in your calendar and know exactly who you're getting into.

With a little luck (and a little perseverance), you can soon add a Shiny Pokémon to your collection, because the shimmering creatures appear much more frequently on Community Day. If you're near a lot of Pokéstops during the event, it shouldn't be a problem to get at least one Shiny.

It doesn't matter if your friends in Pokémon GO don't have time on this day: In parks and public places with lots of Pokéstops, you'll meet large crowds of trainers that you can definitely join.

Exclusive attacks for Pokémon GO Community Day

It's worth catching the pocket monster as often as possible, because this way you'll quickly collect a lot of candies needed to evolve a Pokémon in a very short time. Since the star of a Community Day is often rather rare, the chance to finally get the evolution stands out on these days.

If you're aiming to evolve a Pokémon from Community Day, we recommend doing so while the event is still going on. If you use the collected candies to evolve the Pokémon during the three-hour event, it will receive an exclusive attack. This cannot be learned in any other way. VM's and TM's are also unable to do so.

Pokémon GO Community Day in September 2020

Niantic let fans vote on which Pokémon should be the focus of the next Community Day. And you decided that Porygon will appear more often than usual in September.

  • When: September 20, 2020
  • Time: 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m

As always, Pokémon GO has some bonuses in store for you on this special day. You'll get 3x XP when catching Pokémon and only need smoke once to attract Pokémon for three hours during the event.

Remember to evolve Porygon or its iridescent form during the event, or at the latest in the two hours after. This is the only way to give Porygon-Z the Triplette attack. This day also counts as the introduction of the attack in the game.

By the way, Niantic has announced that trainers who take a snapshot during the event may get a surprise.

To evolve Porygon and Porygon2, you will need special evolution items. To do so, participate in the Mega Battle Challenge from Friday, September 11, 2020 at 08:00 until Thursday, September 17, 2020 at 22:00. If you complete the limited-time research, you will receive a Sinnoh Stone and an upgrade.

On the other hand, if you have a ticket for the Community Day-exclusive special research "Decode Porygon," you'll get the items by completing that task.

Info: You can buy "Decode Porygon" for 1 US dollar (or the corresponding price of the local currency) in the store.

Pokémon GO Community Day in October 2020

October is going to be hot! On the upcoming Community Day, you can expect the fire starter Glumanda. The popular Pokémon appears particularly often in the wild. If you're lucky, you'll even find an Iridescent Glumanda on this day. There's triple catch stardust and your lure modules will last a full three hours, so get cracking!

  • When: October 17, 2020
  • Time: 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m

As usual on Community Day, the special Pokémon has an unusual attack in store. But for that, it's important that you evolve your Glumanda into Glutexo and eventually Glurak before the end of the event (or no more than two hours after). If you manage to do that, Glurak will get the attack Fire Ember.

Last month there was already a surprise waiting for you if you took snapshots during the event. Try it again in October and see what Niantic has come up with.

For 1,280 PokéCoins, there's a one-time Community Day box for every player this month that includes 30 Hyperballs as well as a top-loading TM, three Super Brooders and three Star Pieces. Also, remember to complete the special field research missions to collect Mega Energy for Glurak.

The exclusive special research, called "A Story Without Circumlocution," is available in the store for $1 (appropriate conversion to local currency).
