Monster Hunter Rise: The advantages and disadvantages of the morph axe
Since the Morph Axe is two weapons in one, it has a distinct advantage: if you play in Axe mode, you'll keep enemies at a bit of a distance and counter them with quick attacks. If you fight in sword mode, you'll go into direct close combat and score with great damage. You'll be able to react flexibly to the monsters' attacks.
Like many other weapons in Monster Hunter Rise, you can't block with the morph axe. One drawback: since you always have to recharge the change bar before you can switch weapons, the sword attacks are limited.
How to control the Morph Axe
The Morph Axe is two weapons in one, so you can switch between axe and sword. Accordingly, you have many attacks at your disposal, which we list below.
Attacks with the axe
Key | Action |
X | Axe: Overhead blow |
Quickly press A | Axe: Wild haymaker |
X A | Axe: Uppercut |
left joystick X | Axe: Forward blow |
ZR | Morphing/Reloading |
In order to morph, you'll need to keep an eye on your change bar. This is your miniature weapon, which you will find next to the morph axe sharpness indicator. The bar fills up when you are in axe mode. When the bar is full, you can switch to the sword and do damage with it.
Heavy Strike (Axe): Perform several wild swings and then press X for a heavy knockdown. It can bring your power to a maximum.
Attacks with the sword
Key | Action |
X | Sword: Overhead slash |
A | Sword: Double cut |
X A | Elemental Charge |
ZR | Morph |
Vials: When you fight with a sword, your change bar is used up. At the same time, your attacks are strengthened with the effects of a vial (e.g. poison or paralysis).
Boosted State: At some point, vials will reach a boosted state, allowing you to land extra hits in Axe and Sword modes.
Use combos and increase damage
When you go hunting with the morph axe in Monster Hunter Rise, you only need to memorize two combos. One for the sword and one for the axe. The Simple Combo for the axe looks like this:
Forward Chop (left joystick X) > Overhead Chop (X) > Side Chop (X) > Up Chop (X)
With the sword, on the other hand, you may need a bit of practice to execute a combo during an attack opportunity:
X-cut combo (3x X) > A-cut combo (2x A) > Elemental Charge (X A) > Elemental Charge Deathblow (press X quickly)
New in Monster Hunter Rise: Silk Binder Attacks
As with the other weapons in Monster Hunter Rise, the Morph Axe also gives you two Silk Binder Attacks to deal powerful damage to the primeval giants.
The main attacks
MorphLoader: Press ZL A to activate this silk binder attack. A rope beetle catapults you towards the target while the change bar regenerates faster. Once full, it will stay as it is for a short time before slowly decreasing.
Invincible Gambit: Press ZL X to activate this silk binder attack. You will turn forward while attacking. It makes you more robust and you won't be knocked back by even the strongest counterattacks.
Morph Axe Switching Skills
You don't have to keep the above Silk Binder attacks, you can also switch them. Instead of Invincible Gambit, you can use Sky High Wyvern Blade. During a slash attack, a rope beetle pulls you into the air and you perform a forward slash. If you hit your target with it, the morph axe activation bar fills up and an explosion occurs in the wound.
