Also, an important note beforehand: unlocking most characters requires so-called strategy resources, which in turn allow you to activate a persuasion strategy before battle.

To accumulate as many strategy resources as possible, you should complete all the side missions on the strategy map in each chapter. Also, remember to add luxury goods to the stall in the warehouse. This is the only way to get access to all the gifts in the course of the game.

For those looking for an extra thrill, play the "Golden Wildfire" route in Classic mode. Fallen comrades are then not revived. However, the rule only takes effect from chapter 4 onwards.

Balthus of Albrecht

Chapters 10, 11 & 13: Unlockable Characters

Byleth Eisner

  • Affiliation: Ash Demon
  • Unlock Condition: Byleth is also unlocked in chapter 10. To do so, proceed as follows: Once Claude reaches his destination, you must escort him. Avoid any encounter with Byleth. This is especially true for the side mission that asks you to kill Byleth. While escorting Claude, send at least three of your allies to the northwest of the map. Once Boss Fleche shows up, a character change will be enough to attack her directly. This is important because you must defeat Fleche before Byleth can come to her aid. If you succeed, both Byleth and Jeralt will join the Golden Stags.

Jeralt Reus Eisner

  • Affiliation: Church of Seiros
  • Unlock Condition: Successfully complete the main mission of Chapter 10 and do not get in Byleth's way (see previous entry). Jeralt will eventually be recruited only if you manage to win Byleth to your cause as well.
  • Ideal gifts: owl feather, blue cheese, smoked meat, whetstone, riding boots, float for fishing

Ashe Ubert

  • Affiliation: Kingdom of Faerghus
  • Unlock Condition: Can be convinced by using a strategy in the main mission of Chapter 11. This costs a steep 30 strategy resources.

  • Best Class: Bow Knight

Dorothea Arnault

  • Affiliation: Empire of Adrestia
