Anno 1800 - Eden at the End: All about the new scenario mode

With the new scenario mode "Eden at the End", Anno 1800 prepares us for the fourth Season Pass, which will arrive in 2022. A whole new game mechanic awaits, which focuses on optimizing the ecosystem in the first update. In this guide, you'll learn:

  • When "Eden in the End" will be released
  • How the scenario mode works
  • What you should know about Season Pass 4

When will "Eden in the End" be released?

The new scenario game mode will be available to all Anno 1800 owners for free starting December 14. You can get the mode either via Ubisoft Connect or the Epic Games Store. Download the update and restart the game. Once you're in the main menu, you'll find another menu item called Scenario under the Campaign and Free Play items. One click is all it takes to start a new adventure.

Have the island produce electricity from sustainable energy sources instead of polluting factories.

How does the scenario mode work?

The new game mode is like a separate chapter. You take on the role of Isabel Sarmento and receive a call for help from Yaosca Rodriguez from the island of La Xultuna. His home was occupied by the Pyrphorians, who have since disappeared, but have left the island in a disastrous state. There are still several factories there, which are doing considerable damage to the ecosystem. Your task now is to help La Xultuna.

You must first eliminate the last traces of the Pyrphorians and at the same time maintain the standard of the inhabitants of La Xultuna. In other words, make sure that there is electricity on the island, but switch from the polluting generator to more sustainable forms of energy.

Help the island become a healthy environment again.

This is the game mechanic behind the scenarios

There are only slight changes here

First and foremost, you'll benefit from everything you've learned from your Anno games so far. But there are also changes that will present you with entirely new challenges. For example, the material costs for demolitions are not reimbursed! So you have to manage your resources well and should only demolish buildings if you have enough construction material for new buildings.

Since La Xultuna is in the New World, you will again have to deal with the (slightly different) needs of the Jornaleros and Obreros. They still want certain goods like coffee pots or certain drinks, but the requirements for the items are not as high as usual. Factors like influence or satisfaction don't matter at all in scenario mode.

Unlocked building types can be used later in "Free Play" mode.

New: The eco-balance

Your island has three new factors to keep track of: Water Quality, Soil Quality and Air Quality. All three values are very bad at the beginning and you'll have to put in some work to bring them back up to scratch.

If one of the values drops to zero, you'll lose the game. You should therefore regularly check your eco-balance and analyze how you can counteract the downward trend. For example, it helps if you do not build farm complexes for one and the same raw material, but build different farms next to each other. This has a positive effect on the soil quality.

Always keep an eye on your eco-balance values to avoid losing the game.

Failure is part of the game in "Eden in the End"!

What's the saying? You learn from your mistakes! This also applies to the scenario mode in Anno 1800. It is not unlikely that you will fail at least once and have to start over. But you don't have to start from scratch when you restart. Ruins that you've already removed will stay gone, and technologies that you've already unlocked will remain.

Outlook for Season Pass 4

Next year, the fourth Season Pass in Anno 1800 will be released, which will again include several DLCs. Ubisoft has yet to announce what these will look like.

The special DLC "Plant a tree" gives a first preview. The additional content costs 2.99 Euros, but Ubisoft does not earn anything from it. The proceeds go to Ecologi, a social enterprise that supports reforestation. You can buy the DLC until the end of March 2022, after which it will disappear from the store. The DLC does not introduce any new game mechanics, but you will receive a tree ornament.
