Anno 1800 - Roofs of the City: Info & tips on the new DLC

As your empire grows in Anno 1800, so does the number of associated DLCs. The expansion Roof s of the City is now available, and after Warehouse City and Travel Time, it has a few new features in store that will completely turn the skyline of your metropolis upside down. What's more: It's hard to beat in terms of complexity and should therefore appeal to Anno 1800 experts in particular. In our guide to the third DLC in the third Season Pass, you can find out:

  • What content is included in Roofs of the City
  • How the high society will move in with you
  • Which new monuments you will soon be able to decorate your city with

This content is included in Anno 1800 - Roofs of the City

The larger your population gets, the more exquisite their demands become. Not so easy to meet their needs. But if you want to attract the eloquent high society to your island, you have to score with correspondingly high-quality goods.

But the focus is not only on the society that is eager to buy, but also on the construction of skyscrapers in which well-heeled investors put their money. With it you find in roofs of the city:

  • New buildings
  • New raw materials
  • New monumental building
  • New effects
  • New needs

The requirements for building skyscrapers

To start in rooftops and finally build skyscrapers, your metropolis must already be thriving. Only when you host 5,000 investors on your island will you get the chance to build the new building type.

But even the most experienced Anno players will eventually reach their limits with this DLC, because sooner or later you won't be able to avoid rethinking the architecture of your city. No matter how clever you have planned in advance. So if you thought laying power lines and railroad tracks was tricky, look forward to the new expansion.

Before you can build the Skyline Tower, you must first prepare your metropolis for it.

Even the best resource management has its limits

If you've been running an endless game for a long time and are integrating the new DLCs, you probably won't have had much trouble responding to new needs so far. If you have been careful with your resources and have accumulated enough of them, constructing new buildings has usually not been a problem. However, this should change with Roofs of the City.

Among other things, elevators are needed for the construction of skyscrapers, which also have to be produced first and cost resources accordingly. In addition, the residents have new demands such as chewing gum or typewriters. So new trade routes to the New World are needed to supply the Old World with the corresponding goods.

Then, when you consider that you can upgrade the skyscrapers several times and the demands increase with each level, it seems almost impossible to have resources on the high side. If you want your skyscrapers to go up a level, you must have at least 15 of the previous level nearby.

Skyscrapers must be affordable

Apart from the resources that a skyscraper consumes, it also eats up quite a bit of upkeep. Although the residents in the skyscrapers pay taxes, in the wrong place the buildings cost you more than they earn you. You should therefore place the skyscrapers carefully so that they benefit from the so-called panorama effect, among other things.

What is the panorama effect?

Basically, when expanding skyscrapers, you have to make sure that the building in the center is always the tallest and all the others get lower the further you move away from the center. The reason: if a skyscraper is surrounded by lower skyscrapers, it gets the panorama effect. And this reduces the maintenance costs. It also increases the maximum number of residents, and under special circumstances it even provides bonus residents.

If you position your skyscrapers cleverly, you can benefit from the panorama effect.

Going high: New monumental building

If you were able to build the Eiffel Tower, er, iron tower, in Travel Time, you can go one better in the Roofs of the City DLC. In the new expansion of Anno 1800, you can rebuild the twin of the Empire State Building, which is called Skyline Tower.

However, it will only be unlocked once you have raised 15 skyscrapers to the highest level. Then, however, the Skyline Tower offers space for thousands of investors. How many there are in the end depends on the number of shopping malls you have in the city. And the best thing about it: The shopping mall doesn't even have to be in the immediate vicinity of the Skyline Tower. Anywhere on your island will do ..

High, higher, Empire State Building. Pardon me, Skyline Tower!

New building type: shopping malls

As you progress through Anno 1800's new DLC, your residents will demand shopping arcades. You'll have three different types available to you throughout the game: a department store, a drugstore, and a furniture store. You'll need all of them to keep your metropolis inhabitants satisfied.

The convenient thing about the shopping arcades is that they are a single type of building. You then decide what to sell in it. The same goes for the production lines and the multipurpose factories. In the latter, for example, you can have either elevators or cookies produced.

One design, multiple uses: factories and shopping arcades can be used for different goods.

Additional game time through city roofs

In an endless game like Anno 1800, it is of course difficult to name a concrete number of hours that you will have to spend on the DLC. Especially with the ninth expansion, it's almost impossible, since it depends heavily on how much you need to restructure your metropolis, trade routes and New World locations.

If you're one of those Anno enthusiasts who likes to tinker with the infrastructure of your islands and familiarize yourself with the new features and possibilities, you'll be busy for a good 20 hours. If that's enough at all ..

It takes quite a while until your Skyline Tower shines in its entirety.

You benefit if you own several DLCs

It is of course possible to play Anno 1800 with only the Roofs of the City DLC. However, if you are in possession of other expansions, this can be useful for you. DLC synergies is the keyword here.

For example, if you own the DLCs The Arcade or Land of Lions, you'll get new recipes for your shopping arcade that grant special effects. You can also connect the Skyline Tower to your bus network and thus satisfy tourists from the Travel Time DLC.

With this, the developers of Anno 1800 have listened to the feedback of the community and have followed the wishes of the players!

In the DLC Travel Time, the iron tower was still the highest monumental building. With Roofs of the World it has to give up this title ..
