Far Cry New Dawn Hunting Guide: All Animals & their Materials

In this guide to Far Cry New Dawn you will find out

  • which animals are available
  • where you can find all animals
  • which materials they give
  • which weapon is the best to hunt with

To kill all the animals in the game, one skill is important: fishing. Only with this skill you can equip a fishing rod and cast it in the lake of your choice. We also recommend you to unlock "Nature Lover". This benefit will let you get closer to the animals, since they won't flee from you as quickly.

Many animals in Far Cry New Dawn have a mutated counterpart that is much stronger. If you defeat these special specimens, you'll get additional materials and the fulfillment of one or the other challenge. So it's worth fighting here. However, we recommend that you do so only with advanced weapons from level 3 or with an elite rifle. Otherwise, the fight will be really hard.

1. Black bear

The big quadruped comes from America and can be found very close to Prosperity. Northeast of Laurel's cabin, he roams the woods at level 3.

If you defeat the black bear, his skin will be waiting for you, which you can exchange for 40 x titanium at a merchant.

2. Mutated Black Bear

The mutated friend of the black bear is a whole lot stronger. Nuclear contamination has turned him into his elite pet, which resides north of New Eden's gate.

In exchange for his skin, you can get 10 x carbon fiber from the merchant.

3. Grizzly Bear

Besides the black bear and his mutant friend, there is a wide quadruped that we would like to assign to this category: The Grizzly Bear. He is also ranked 3rd and is really strong.

If you defeat the big bear, be sure to take his skin with you. You'll also get 40 x titanium for it.

4. Bison

The bison is a real eye-catcher because of its special appearance. He lives very close to an outpost. Go to the screwdriver 's shack and keep northeast behind the riverbank.

His wrinkled skin gives 60 x armor tape, which is especially important for crafting and is always needed.

At the end of Far Cry New Dawn you will have the opportunity to decide Joseph Seed's fate.

5. Mutated bison

Very close to the normal bison is the elite bison, mutated by radiation. It is especially strong and waits for you east of the screwdriver's shack, just before the wide arm of the river.

If you can defeat the bison, you will exchange its skin for 10 blanks.

6. Wild boar

In the far south, under the outpost called the Screwdriver's Shack, you'll find the Wild Boar. With its big ears and fur, it looks almost cute. It has level 2 and should therefore be killed quickly. But be careful, the little beasts are fast and usually come in packs!

If you need copper, you should exchange its skin for 60 pieces.

7. Mutated Boar

This male boar has also mutated and is now an elite enemy with special strength. Head to the trailer town and north from there to meet him.

The merchant will give you 10 x carbon fiber for this skin.

8. Puma

One of the most dangerous wildcats is waiting for you again near the wrench shop. Move southeast to encounter the rank 3 c ougar.

Defeat this feline predator and 60 components await in exchange for its skin.

9. Mutated cougar

To find the elite c ougar, you'll have to go a little further. A good quick travel point is the outpost called Signal Station. From there, you should keep to the west to encounter the mutated animal.

As a prize for the mutated cougar's skin, you will get 10 circuit boards.

10. Moose

The giant moose not only has big antlers, but also shows its enormous power with level 3 in battle. Face the animal east of Kellet's Howl.

If you defeat the moose, you will get 60 gears for the skin.

11. Rabbit

They are small, fast and therefore hard to see: Rabbits. The long ears are hopping all over Hope County, you can find them everywhere. They have often been seen at Dick's bunker hole, for example.

If you are fast enough and kill a hare, you get 60 x copper for its skin at the merchant.

12. Caribou

Caribou are often mistaken for moose, but these animals and their antlers are much more delicate. Also, caribou are only level 2 and therefore relatively easy prey. You can find them west of the outpost "The Waterhole", but sometimes they run into you.

Their skin gives 60 gears in exchange.

13. Rattlesnake

Snakes have one advantage: their small size. They can hide well and camouflage easily between flowers or ropes. You can find them everywhere, but be sure to look closely in caves. Here they appear in clusters. Also, you can usually hear them before you see them.

In exchange for the skin of a rattlesnake, any merchant will give you 30 components.

14. Pronghorn

You've probably already met the pronghorn, but you didn't know what this animal is called. Although it roams a bit, you'll find some specimens of the weak breed just north of an outpost calledSacred Wood.

The pronghorn's hide yields 30 components.

15. Cattle

The cozy looking cattle graze away on the pumpkin farm. However, here and there they can be found in other places of Hope County.

If you need 40 x armor tape, you should trade in the cattle skin.

16. Skunk

The skunk's red eyes and white fur will catch your eye. There are several places where it can be found. Look for it especially during the expedition to Alcatraz Island.

The skin of the skunk gives 30 x copper.

17. Wolverine

At first glance, the wolverine looks like a small bear. However, it is only level 2 and you can find it mainly in a meadow area, south of the old forge.

Kill the little quadruped and get 40 components for the wolverine skin.

18. Wapiti

This animal has thick antlers covered with fur. It looks peaceful, but will attack you if you get too close. This moose is rank 2 and is located south of the water hole.

In exchange for the wapiti skin, a merchant will give you 8 x black powder.

19. White-tailed Deer

Thanks to its white fur and pink nose, which perfectly matches the color of its antlers, you can recognize the white-tailed deer from afar. He's staying very close to Prosperity. Just head north after leaving the base.

The skin of the white-tailed deer brings 30 x armor tape.

20. Wild Bull

Big, strong and two pointed horns on the side. This must be the wild bull, which has quite the power to attack you at level 3.

Kill the beast to get 8 x black powder in exchange for the bull's skin.

21. Wild dog

Wild dogs also populate Hope County. Despite being only level 1, the slender quadrupeds can give you quite a scare when they come running. You'll run into them from time to time, and they can also be found in the trailer town.

The wild dog skin can be exchanged for 60 x copper.

22. Wolf

What would a forest be without wolves? You can find the relatives of the domestic dog near the refinery, for example. With rank 2 it is a bit stronger than the wild dog.

Exchange the wolf skin at a merchant for 30 x titanium.

23. Shark

Dangers also lurk in the water. Besides the fish you can fish for, there are hungry sharks in the sea. You will meet a shark during the expedition "H.M.S. MacCoubrey", which has to be killed.

Back on land, the shark skin can be exchanged for 4 x solvents.

24. Crocodile

The green predators with the many teeth are mainly found in the swamps. An expedition called "Wreck of the Government Plane" will take you directly there.

In exchange for crocodile skin you get 6 x black powder.

Despite the nuclear explosion, the fish in Far Cry New Dawn look pretty normal.

25. Tiger fish

Although we list the fish that can be caught separately below, we don't want to leave the tiger fish unmentioned. It's already level 2 and likes to bite hard if a player gets too close to it. The tiger fish lives in the river west of the Dead Tower.

If you kill this biting fish, you will receive 60 x copper for its tiger fish skin.

26. Fish Fishing

In Hope County you can find six different fish species. A body of water always contains only one type of fish in different weight classes and sizes. If you have caught five specimens, the trade is worthwhile, because you can not carry more. For another fish you have to go to the next lake or river section.

We'll tell you where you can find all five types of fish and what else you need to know about the aquatic animals in our guide to fishing in Far Cry New Dawn.

It's worth spotting all the animals, killing them and collecting their remains. There are two trophies waiting to be earned. You'll get "Haut Couture" for collected skins, named in reference to an extravagant fashion style, and "Für den An-Fang", which is also a great play on words.

Take an outpost undetected and you'll get an ethanol bonus.

27. Other Animals

You've probably noticed other animals in Far Cry New Dawn. There are ducks waddling around lakes here and there. There are also other birds and even turkeys. In some places you will also find fluffy sheep. You can kill them all, but you won't get any skin that can be exchanged for materials.

28. Recommended weapons for hunting

If you have elite weapons, you can hunt with just about anything. If you are not so far in the game, we advise you to sneak and act from ambush. You can hunt especially well with a well-aimed arrow of a silent weapon. The sawblade launcher is also suitable in the fight against the animals.

You can also hunt animals with explosive weapons. Grenades are a great way to kill several specimens at once. Especially in unclear areas or waters sometimes the first choice. If you only want to kill the animal for the trophy, this is certainly not a bad idea. However, you should keep in mind that destroyed and burned animal skin will also be included in your inventory.
