Far Cry New Dawn Guide: Easter Eggs about Vaas, Captain America and Splinter Cell

In this guide to Far Cry New Dawn we show you among other things

  • which Easter Eggs Ubisoft has hidden
  • where you can find the secret messages
  • what your character has to do with Marvel
  • why Boomer is dead

Since New Dawn is set 17 years after Far Cry 5 and thus directly follows the events after the apocalypse, there are some Easter Eggs from the past to discover. Sometimes they are hidden in unexpected places, but you will also come across them by chance. Especially if you have played the predecessor extensively.

Apart from the allusions to the previous part, you'll also find some movie references. Superhero fans will get their money's worth here, but fans of the scary genre can also look forward to an allusion. So it's definitely worth keeping your eyes open.

1. Vaas is back

One of the most popular villains of the Far Cry saga is clearly the eccentric Vaas from Far Cry 3. In memory of this fantastic antagonist, Ubisoft has thought to pay special tribute to him. And it wouldn't be Far Cry if that wasn't extremely bizarre. So they turned him into a bobblehead, put on a bast skirt and put the ukulele in his hand. Pure vacation feeling! If you want to find the bobblehead, you have to go to Nadine's junkyard. There he is on one of the shelves.

2. Boomer is dead

Do you remember the cute four-legged friend with the cold nose from Far Cry 5? We're talking about Boomer, who was extremely popular among many players as a companion. Unfortunately, he is no longer with us in this part. No wonder, New Dawn is set a whole 17 years later. Although dogs live a long time, the little one couldn't last this period of time.

Boomer's owners have not forgotten the dog and even built a tomb for him. If you want to see it, you have to go to the southwest of Hope County. This is where the Fang Center is located. Nearby is a church where you need to find a secret passage. Go down it and come out at a memorial for Boomer.

If you want another animal companion in Far Cry New Dawn, we can recommend Horatio. Depending on what level he is, he can even revive himself. Besides, the wild boar attacks with a lot of power. Equally handy is Timber, the dog substitute for Boomer.

3. Assassin Pose in Hope County

One of Ubisoft's most famous franchises is probably Assassin's Creed. Pretty much every gamer knows the famous eagle jump. The protagonist always lands in a hay cart, haystack or sea of flowers. You can now recreate this pose with the outstretched arms in Far Cry. Simply go to the photo mode. Here, your character will assume different poses. Among others, also the one from Assassin's Creed.

4. Deputy

We have to issue a spoiler warning for this Easter Egg. You're welcome to read on here if you've already seen a good 75 es of the game or don't have a problem with spoilers.

We warned you, now it really starts!

In the course of the story you will meet Joseph Seed, who appeared in the last part as a prophet and villain. He comes with you to Prosperity and even provides you with a helper that can be selected in Guns For Hire. The Masked Archer with a hood is not some dumb placeholder because Ubisoft couldn't think of anything better, but "Deputy".

Wait, that name means something to you? It should, because this is the character you impersonated in the predecessor. Although he doesn't speak, the residents in Prosperity will recognize him and engage him in conversation.

5. Rabbids flag

Bwahahaha! The crazy bunnies appear in countless video games from the publisher. If you want to spot a crazy Rabbid in Hope County, you should head to the amusement park. On one of the flagpoles hangs a rather torn flag, taken by vegetation. Nevertheless, they are clearly visible: The Rabbids.

6. Hurk

Hurk is one of those characters that has been recurring since Far Cry 3. He seems to be popular with players, but also the team at Ubisoft. This time he's an expert in everything that can explode and is also available in the helper selection. He is never at a loss for a quip and will entertain your adventures with cheeky statements. Listen carefully, because he has a large repertoire of quotes from video games and even movies in his luggage.

7. Splinter Cell Costume

Although no new part has been released for a while, Splinter Cell is still one of Ubisoft's important brands. So it's no surprise that there is also a reference to this franchise in the game. When you go on an expedition and examine an airplane there, you can find a laptop. On it you will see several references to the character Sam Fisher.

Also, you should now look in the closet and find a cool suit from Splinter Cell. Take it with you and put it on right away. After all, it's a battle suit!

8. Old locations

The complete map of Hope County could be considered a kind of Easter Egg. After all, you were already on the road here during Far Cry 5 and explored the most remote corners. Although atomic bombs were detonated and the land was initially covered in ashes, some buildings are still clearly recognizable.

For example, go to Joseph's church, where you wanted to arrest him back then. This place is now heavily damaged and even partially underwater, so you'll have to dive to continue reminiscing.

9. Blood Dragon

North of Hope County, you can activate Selene's quest, which awaits you at a submerged silo. Although the quest item seems to be within reach, you fall into the water and have to find a new way. But before you do that, you should take a deep breath and dive a bit. Behind a grate you can see a skeleton. Quickly switch to photo mode to have more time to look at the pile of bones. This skeleton actually represents the Blood Dragon from Far Cry.

10. Fashion Week

If you've played Far Cry 4, you're probably familiar with the antagonist Pagan Min. Of course, he didn't get his special clothes from the Strange and he doesn't buy them from anyone. He hired a dressmaker named Mumu, who designed his eccentric fashion for him.

Now, when you look at the shelves of the houses in Far Cry New Dawn, you'll keep stumbling across books that remind you of previous parts. Mumus Fashion Week" is also in many households and seems to have survived the apocalypse quite well. But no wonder, fashion is immortal after all.

11. Pennywise again

Already in part 5 you had the possibility to discover red balloons in Far Cry. On a drainpipe, for example. They clearly pointed to a movie, or rather to the horror character Pennywise there. A kind of creepy clown with red balloons. In Far Cry New Dawn, you'll find these party accessories in Nadine's junkyard. During the quest of the same name, you'll have to use a weapon to hit all the targets that appear in order to open a door in the bunker. There you will find not only some materials, but also red balloons again. Now that's a coincidence!

12. Hey Cap!

As soon as you start playing Far Cry New Dawn, you will be called Captain. In itself, this is nothing unusual at first. Some characters in the game will call you with a short form that you might know from a well-known franchise: Marvel. Again and again, the NPCs address you as "Cap". This is also how Captain America is called by his friends. Coincidence?

Could be, but the name of the character you meet right at the beginning also fits this superhero allusion. He bears the name "Barnes". This young man can also be associated with the Marvel universe, because Bucky Barnes is Captain America's best friend.

But that's not all the references to the American superhero. If you've seen the movies, you probably know that Cap always has his shield with him. It not only protects him from attacks, since it is made of indestructible vibranium, but it is also a good weapon. Ubisoft has also taken advantage of this feature and lets you pick up the enemies' shields, as well as throw them at the enemy with a good amount of force.
Coincidence? We're not so sure about that.

13. Marvel Infinity War Part I

If you are passionate superhero fans, you have surely seen the current and now many months old movie Avengers Infinity War Part 1. A little spoiler warning at this point: If you haven't seen this movie but plan to, we strongly advise against reading on. The following spoiler could otherwise predict large parts of the movie for you, and that would be a real shame.

At the end of Far Cry New Dawn, you have the chance to decide Joseph Seed's fate.

So are you ready for Easter Egg #2 from Marvel? Then here we go:

When you have Hurk by your side and he dies from an arrow, bullet or other weapon, he asks for help with various statements. One of them is directly related to the first part of Infinity War. Namely, Hurk mimes Spider-Man in a moment before his death, quoting the latter's last sentence before he disintegrates:

"Oh Mister Stark, I don't feel so good."
