WoW Classic Alchemy Guide: Get to 300 profession quickly

When you create a character in WoW Classic, you'll have to make a choice at some point: Which professions do you want to learn? In addition to blacksmithing, tailoring and leatherworking, there is also alchemy as another primary profession. In our guide we explain:

  • Why alchemy is a very useful profession
  • Where you can learn alchemy
  • How to go from apprentice to expert with little effort

WoW Classic: Things to know about alchemy

What can you produce?

Your products as an alchemist include potions and elixirs that you and your companions can use in dungeons and raids. These can be classic healing and mana potions, but also elixirs that temporarily increase primary values such as intelligence, agility, strength or endurance.

If you have chosen Alchemy in WoW Classic, you can not only create potions and elixirs, but also transmute elements - for example, water to air or earth to water. With enough reputation, you can get a recipe in the Eastern Plaguelands, for example, that will teach you how to transmute air into fire.

However, transmuting usually has a 24-hour cooldown. This, in turn, makes you rise in the reputation of your fellow players, who will gladly use your services and sometimes pay you a lot of money to "buy" your cooldown.

Why should you learn the profession?

Like most primary professions, alchemy is very useful, especially for the WoW Classic endgame. With your potions and elixirs you support the entire dungeon or raid group, which thanks to you does more damage, heals better or endures more.

Not to be sneezed at is also the possibility to get a lot of money quickly with the help of your cooldowns.

Don't ask us why in WoW Classic Alchemy is spelled with an "i" and not with an "e" ..

What are the levels of alchemy?

To go from apprentice to expert, you need a total of 300 skill points. However, periodically you will need to visit an alchemy teacher who will increase your skills, unlocking more recipes.

  • Apprentice (skill level 1-75)
  • Journeyman (skill level 75-150)
  • Expert (skill level 150-225)
  • Expert (skill level 225-300)

What do the colors mean?

Recipes that you can craft have different colors: Gray, Green, Yellow and Orange. If you make a gray alchemy recipe, you will not get any more skill points for it. If it is a green recipe, you may receive a point every few potions or elixirs. Potions and elixirs marked in yellow will almost always give you a skill point, while an orange recipe is guaranteed to give you a point.

Where do you get herbs?

When alchemy becomes your primary profession in WoW Classic, you should learn herbalism as a secondary profession. While you are questing and wandering through the areas, you can diligently collect herbs, which you will need to make potions and elixirs.

Alternatively, you can also buy the herbs in the auction house, but this will quickly become very expensive. And money is really scarce in WoW Classic.

Like a pro: From 1 to 300 in no time!

In each section, we'll tell you the minimum number of herbs and vials you need to advance your character one level as an alchemist.

First of all, you can find teachers who will teach you your professions in all major Horde and Alliance capitals. If you want to get all the herbs you need to get all the skill points in one go, here's a little tip: Alliance players should go to Darnassus to get their skills, while Horde players should go to Undercity. There you will find the necessary alchemy instructors.

The start as an apprentice (1-75)

Advancing from apprentice to journeyman is relatively easy. The herbs you need are plentiful in the city areas, so you should have everything you need quickly. Teachers for this can be found in all major capitals of both factions.

Continue as a journeyman (75-150)
