How to defeat Katagawa Jr. and his clones in Borderlands 3

After fighting the hard-armored units at Atlas HQ, you will be navigated to Rhy's office. Make the final preparations here. You'll need a short-range weapon, like a shotgun or a pistol. You should also equip a sniper rifle.

The fight against Katagawa Jr. starts as soon as you jump down the shaft in Rhy's office. Right at the beginning, he summons two clones that keep you under constant fire and attack you in close combat. Destroying the holo-clones will only give you a short rest, as the boss will activate them again after a few seconds. Ignore them and keep an eye out for the real Katagawa.

Both Katagawa Jr. and his clones have a regenerating shield that absorbs damage. For your third weapon slot, a weapon with a shock effect is a good choice. Shock damage is the most effective elemental effect against shields. You can recognize it by the blue lettering in the tooltip of a weapon. Katagawa Jr. changes positions with his clones by making quick ninja jumps. Keep an eye on the mini-map to avoid losing track of your enemies' positions. Often both clones are on the towers and Katagawa Jr. is harassing you with his katana. Once your screen is blurred, Katagawa will switch his attack style from ranged to melee and vice versa.

When the boss is facing you in ranged combat, one clone will attack you in melee while the other clone shoots at you from one of the towers. You can recognize Katagawa Jr. by his name above his head. His clones don't have a name and are easy to identify.

Borderlands 3 Katagawa Jr: Use the environment

The environment offers few options to protect you from enemy projectiles. Use the little house in the middle and the transformers for short breathers. Note, however, that the boss also uses the generators and charges up on them. Prevent this by firing several shots at the transformer until it explodes.

The clones can also be casually eliminated with the generators. Shoot a transformer when a clone is in close proximity. It will get a hard electric shock and lose its shield.

Once Katagawa Jr. has only five percent life left, the final phase begins. Put him under constant fire so that his deadly attacks won't be your undoing. He will attack you at close range, being faster and dealing more damage. Use backward jumps to dodge and attack him at the same time.
