Far Cry 5: Fishing records - how to break them & unlock Old Betsy

In Far Cry 5, the Eden's Gate cult and its insane leader Joseph Seed keep the population of Hope County on tenterhooks. As a rookie sheriff, you are supposed to put a stop to the fanatics.

However, although the fictional county in Montana has enough other problems, the inhabitants enjoy one hobby in particular: fishing. Therefore, in each of the three regions that the game world of Far Cry 5 is divided into, there are fishing records that you can break.

This not only brings you money, but is also a prerequisite for unlocking the best fishing rod in the game, the so-called "Old Betsy".

In the following we will tell you which requirements you have to fulfill to unlock Old Betsy, which fish you have to catch for the "fishing records" and where you can find the water dwellers in the open world.

Fishing records in Far Cry 5

If you want to unlock Old Betsy, which is the best fishing rod in Far Cry 5, you'll have to break some fishing records first.

Four specific fish are the same for each of the three regions. You'll have to catch them once, and then you'll have already completed a large part of the fishing records. In addition, there are special fish for each region, which you also have to pull out of the water.

Therefore, we will first tell you which aquatic creatures you have to catch in the first place:

Fishing Records in Holland Valley

You should catch the following fish from the board in all regions of Far Cry 5 to break the record:

  • Bull trout weighing more than 21 pounds
  • Gold trout weighing more than 4 pounds
  • Lake trout weighing more than 37 pounds
  • Rainbow trout weighing more than 28 pounds

The following three fish are also in demand for Holland Valley:

  • White shovelnose sturgeon weighing more than 55 pounds
  • Paddlefish weighing more than 112 pounds

Fishing records in Henbane River

You can check the bulletin board with fishing records in Henbane River at the Hope County Jail. Once you enter the building and pass the arms dealer, all you have to do is walk through the barred door on the left.

Apart from the four "standard" fishes, you have to catch the following three special fishes for the fishing record there:

  • Black bass weighing more than 6 pounds
  • Trout perch weighing more than 8 pounds
  • Rock bass weighing more than 3 pounds

Fishing records in Whitetail Mountains

Apart from the four "standard fish", you should hook the following three special animals for the fishing record there:

  • King salmon weighing more than 27 pounds
  • Red salmon weighing more than 6 pounds
  • Arctic grayling weighing more than 3 pounds

Bull Trout

The fishing spot for Bull Trout can be found in the Whitetail Mountains, northwest of Langford Lake and west of Clagett Bay.

Golden Trout

If you want to fish for the Gold Trout, look for the fish in Holland Valley south of Rye & Sons Aviation on the river.

Lake Trout

Lake trout live in Wishbone Lake and the fishing spot can be found north of Fort Drubman.

Rainbow Trout

Rainbow trout can be found east of Rae-Rae's Pumpkin Farm.

White Shovelnose Sturgeon

To catch White Shovelnose Sturgeon, stay south of the Lamb of God Church.

Paddlefish

The fishing spot for Paddlefish can be found south of John Seeds Ranch on the river.

Black Bass

The Black Bass habitat can be found in Faith's region, to the southeast. Stay north of the greenhouses to find these fish.

Trout Perch

The trout perch also lives in Faith's region. Find the fishing spot just east of the Hope County Jail.

Rock Bass

The rock bass lives in Rock Bass Lake near a small island southwest of Misery.

Chinook Salmon

You can fish for king salmon north of the F.A.N.G. center.

Red salmon

The Gran View Hotel in the Whitetail Mountains is right on Cedar Lake. Start a little ways north from there to find the red salmon fishing spot.

Arctic Grayling

Arctic Grayling live on a very hidden lake that you can't get past by accident. For example, from the F.A.N.G. center, head northwest until you come to a volcano crater-like mountain. In the depression is a lake where the fish live.

Once you catch all these fish, the fishing records in Far Cry 5 will be broken and the fishing rod "Old Betsy" will be available for purchase from weapon dealers.
