Difference between footnote and final note

Introduction

In the preparation of academic documents, different types of notes are used to complement and expand the information presented in the main text. Two of the most used types are footnote and final grade. Although their main function is the same, there is a key difference between them.

Footnote

The footnote is located at the bottom of the page on which the reference is located in the main text. It is used to give additional information or clarifications that cannot be included in the main text without interrupting its flow.

  • They are numbered consecutively throughout the text
  • Your content is restricted to the page you are on
  • They are written in a smaller font size than the main text

Footnote example

According to a study carried out by the WHO[1], childhood obesity is one of the biggest public health problems worldwide.

Footnote:World Health Organization

Final note

The final note is located at the end of the document, after the main text, and is used to provide additional information or clarifications that are not essential to the main text.

  • They are numbered consecutively throughout the text.
  • Its content refers to the document in its entirety
  • They are written in font size equal to the main text

Final grade example

Classical music has a relaxing effect on people[2], so it is advisable to listen to it before sleep.

Final note:Study conducted by Harvard University on the effects of classical music on mental health

Conclusion

In summary, the difference between a footnote and a final note lies in their location and the type of information they present. Both are important to complement the information in the main text and give credit to the sources used.
