Elden Ring: Seluvis - Solve the Preceptor Quest

Preceptor Seluvis is planning some dirty actions against other NPCs in Elden Ring. You can help him with it or trick him. We will guide you through his quest and show you the consequences of each.

How do I start the quest for Seluvis?

You first meet Seluvis during Ranni's quest (guide) in Three Sisters. Join the witch and Preceptor will appear as a ghost in the basement of Rannis Tower. Talk to him and he invites you to visit him in his tower. You can find it in the south of Three Sisters. Talk to him again and he will ask you to find Nepheli Loux and give her a potion.

Seluvis' Potion: Who can I give the potion to?

You don't have to give Seluvis' Potion to Nepheli Loux. There are a total of three possible takers for the Preceptor's brew. One of the three options takes the quest in a completely different direction.

Giving the potion to Nepheli Loux

To find out what you need to do to give the potion to Nepheli Loux (Guide), read the linked guide. If you have decided to poison the warrior, finish her quest immediately.

Consequences of Nepheli Loux ingesting Seluvis' potion

  • Nepheli Loux's quest ends immediately
  • Nepheli will be "displayed" in Seluvis' hidden doll cellar next to Sorceress Sellen
  • You can then buy Nepheli Loux's doll (Ghost Ash) from the Carian servant Pidia on the Caria estate. To do so, ride south along the cliffs of Three Sisters until you can jump onto the rampart of Caria. Cross the wooden platforms to reach a hatch that will lead you to Pidia.

Give Potion to the Manure Eater

Once you arrive at Altus Plateau, the Manure Eater (Quest Guide) will appear in the Tablet Round Fortress Library and you can start his quest. In the course of it, you'll come to a point where you'll need to administer several seedbed curses to the Manure Eater in his cell in the Reserve of Shame. Here you can also administer the potion to him.

Give the potion to Sir Gideon

Talk to Sir Gideon in his room at the Round Table Fortress about Nepheli once she has wandered into the basement. Show him the potion and he will destroy it. This is the easiest and best option if you want to successfully complete both Seluvi's and Nepheli's quests.

Seluvis: Finding the Secret Doll Cellar

Once you have delivered the potion to one of the three takers, return to Seluvis. He will assume that you have completed his quest as requested, regardless of who you have given the potion to. Seluvis now offers you spells to buy. Take them all from him and go to the ruins between Rannis and Renna's tower. There you can uncover a secret passage, as described in Sellen's quest guide.

In the cellar you will find a note from Seluvis. Look at it and then return to the preceptor. Talk to him about his chambers and he offers you a doll. Accept one of them and use it once in battle. Then get Starlight Shards and use it to buy the second doll from him. You may have to return to Seluvis several times until the dialog option appears.

Starlight Shard Locations

Starlight shards are a special currency that can also be used to regenerate focus points. To buy a second doll from Seluvis, you will need three Starlight Shards. Here are some locations:

  • Limgrave: As a reward during Sellen's quest
  • Limgrave: On the hill east of the Bloodhound's Seal Prison, which you must visit during Blaidd's quest (Guide).
  • Peninsula Tears: On the cliffs east of Oridys' Tower
  • Caelid: At a stone sculpture east of the Church of Plague, where you will find Millicent (Quest Guide)

Starlight Shards are often found at these sculptures.

Seluvis: Find Starlight Amber

Once you have bought the second doll, talk to Seluvis again. He now wants to brew a new potion, but needs Starlight Amber to do so. Run to the Carian servant Pidia and buy the Worn Map. It shows you (roughly) the location of the Amber Light Rays. You'll find it in the Altus Plateau in a small clearing northeast of the Altus High Road intersection.

Complete Seluvis' quest, get talisman and armor set

Bring Seluvis the Starlight Amber Stone and you will get the Magic Scorpion Talisman in return. Now you have two options to finish the quest: Either consider it completed now and move on, or cheat Ranni. If you want to stab the powerful witch in the back, go back to Seluvis and he will give you the Amber Potion.

Important: If you betray Ranni, her quest will end at this point and you will lose the chance to get one of the alternative endings of Elden Ring (Guide). You can undo the betrayal of Ranni through Absolution in the Church of Vows.

If Ranni is sleeping in her tower, administer the potion to her. She won't die, but she won't be amused either. If you speak to her three times afterwards, she will kill you instantly. Seluvis doesn't survive the little mutiny either. Find his corpse in his tower and you can grab his sound pearl and the preceptor armor set. Alternatively, you can find Seluvis' armor in his tower when you complete Ranni's quest.

Ranni won't be amused if you try to trick her with Seluvis' Potion.
